Welcome to our Weekly Recap! We want to equip students and parents to live out the Gospel. One way we thought we could do this better is by looking back on what we learned from Sunday and Wednesday. We also want to look ahead to next week’s teaching. This way you can prepare ahead of time and remember what God has taught us.
This Past Sunday we discussed “Memorization”. We started off in our groups looking at different passages that spoke on uses for memorizing the Bible. The uses we discussed are: Conformity to Christ, Triumph over Sin, Triumph over Temptation/Satan, Comfort for Those We Love, Communicating the Gospel to Unbelievers, Enjoyment of God, Making Wise Decisions, Comfort in Stress and Comfort in Sadness. After that we looked at a fair amount of techniques to help us memorize the Bible. Our encouragement this week was to memorize two passages from their Bible reading plan. This Sunday we will share those passages they memorized.
Last night we discussed “Listening to the Word”. We were planning on this being our talk for the coming Sunday but it fit better as a message than as small group questions. We learned that when we read the Bible we need to listen thoughtfully, thoroughly, repeatedly, patiently, imaginatively, meditatively and purposefully. The two we centered on were listening thoroughly and patiently. When we are thorough listeners we bombard the text with questions. When we are patient listeners we have to be patient with the text and with ourselves. As you read this week, think of how you can better listen to the text and what it is saying.
This Sunday we will talk about different “Bible Reading Strategies”. This will be our last small group session on this series. We want to finish off by equipping one another with different ways to read the Bible and keeping it fresh and new each time we read. As we get closer to Sunday morning be thinking of ways that you read through the Bible and study it so you can share that with your small group.
Next Wednesday is our first invite night of the fall, “Photo Scavenger Hunt”! This is an opportunity for our students to invite their non-churched friends. We will have responsible drivers taking students all over the south county area to take photos of clues. At the end of the night we will award the winners and have a brief message sharing the Gospel. The night will be from 6:30-8:30pm. Be sure to be on time!
