Welcome to our Weekly Recap! We want to equip students and parents to live out the Gospel. One way we thought we could do this better is by looking back on what we learned from Sunday and Wednesday. We also want to look ahead to next week’s teaching. This way you can prepare ahead of time and remember what God has taught us.
This Past Sunday we discussed how “Thomas Doubts”. The main point we wanted the students to walk away with is that there are times in our lives we will be skeptical of the supernatural. It is hard at times to have faith that Jesus truly did the miracles the Bible. The most crucial miracle that we have to believe is the resurrection. In 1 Corinthians 15:12-20 we are taught that our faith is meaningless and actually sinful if the resurrection is false. The beauty is that we can have great confidence through the many eye witnesses and accounts of the resurrection of Christ. May we continue to walk in this confidence of our risen Lord and Savior. We encouraged our students to check out This Reading Plan to take some of these questions a little deeper.
Last night we discussed “Doubting God’s Promises”. We first looked at God’s promises and how we can know what they mean and how they apply to us. We looked at this article that gives some great insights. Secondly, we looked at some reasons why we doubt God’s promises, they don’t happen immediate or how we want, we think the world has better things to offer and we as humans don’t make good examples of keeping promises. Lastly, we looked at the important question of how we know we can trust God. We know we can trust Him because it is in His character to be faithful as seen in these passages. We can also trust Him because He has a proven track record of always following through with every promise He has made.
This Sunday we will discuss how Abraham and Sarah Doubted God’s Promise for a Son. The beautiful thing is that God doesn’t respond by wiping them off the planet and starting over. Instead God encourages them and reminds them that He is going to use them exactly as He originally planned. This is such a great reminder that God will do what He plans to do, we only need to decide if we are on board. To prep, check out Genesis 12:1-3, Genesis 17:15-19, Genesis 18:10-15 and Mark 10:20-24. See you then!
Next Wednesday we will NOT have our Evening Worship…because next Friday is our HOEDOWN!! The Hoedown is our invite night for the month of October. This is an event that is created for our students to intentionally invite their non-chuched friends. We will have games, dinner, and square dancing! We ask that boys bring chili, girls bring dessert and everyone comes in an appropriate costume! We will give out awards for the most creative costumes. Look forward to seeing them October 30th from 6-10pm.
