Weekly Recap

Welcome to our Weekly Recap! We want to equip students and parents to live out the Gospel. One way we thought we could do this better is by looking back on what we learned from Sunday and Wednesday. We also want to look ahead to next week’s teaching. This way you can prepare ahead of time and remember what God has taught us.

LOOKING BACK

WEDNESDAY
Last Wednesday we talked about “God, will you…?” The main point of the message was to take a look at our prayer lives and see how they are surrendered to God’s will. We looked at three things that helped us answer that question, What are we praying for, Is God listening, and What are we to pray for? We looked first at the heart of our prayers, why do we pray what we pray? Then we needed to answer the question, do our prayers even matter? Lastly, we wanted to discuss the importance of our attitude when we pray. We looked at the humility of Christ the night he was betrayed as he prayed, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” We left with the challenge, hand over to God the things that we are holding on to.

SUNDAY
Last Sunday we talked about “What Do I Ask God?” Again we looked at our prayer lives and how they match up with God’s will. We began by answering how we ask things according to God’s will. We then talked about the hardship of waiting. Often times we think something isn’t according to God’s will because He hasn’t answered it yet, but God is telling us to wait or is saying no. We finished with the encouragement found in Isaiah 25:6-9 to fix our eyes on the eternal rather than the temporal.

LOOKING AHEAD

TONIGHT
Tonight we have our church-wide Thanksgiving Service at 6:30pm in the Atrium. We will worship God, share things we are thankful for, hear a devotional from Pastor Rusty and commission our new deacons. At the end of the night there will be a dessert reception (so everyone has something to be thankful for). This will take place of our regular Wednesday night activities, so there is no evening worship this week.

SUNDAY
Next Sunday we have small groups at 11am. You might be wondering why we are meeting when everything else is cancelled. There was a last minute decision to cancel classes, we decided to keep CSM for Sunday morning since we planned our series to go through November 29th. We know it will be a low Sunday but look forward to seeing any that can make it! We will finish our series, “Our Will vs. God’s Will” by talking about “How Do We Make God’s Will our Will?” We encourage everyone to read Matthew 18:1-4, Romans 12:9 and Matthew 19:16-22 to prepare their hearts! See you then!

Weekly Recap

Welcome to our Weekly Recap! We want to equip students and parents to live out the Gospel. One way we thought we could do this better is by looking back on what we learned from Sunday and Wednesday. LOOKING BACK

SUNDAY
This Past Sunday we introduced our new series “Our Will vs. God’s Will”. During this series we want to dialogue “What is God’s Will for My Life.” We want to understand God’s Will for our lives and how to follow it. The two main texts we looked at on Sunday were Matthew 28:18-20 to make disciples and 1 Thessalonians 4:1-7 to be sanctified. The discussion then revolved around where do we need to surrender things in our lives to God’s Will.

WEDNESDAY
Last night we discussed “God, Can I…?”This is a common question that we have for God. It sounds a little like, God can I hang out with these friends, can I cuss, can I watch this type of movie, can I work at this job, etc. What we discussed was how we can filter these questions through a series of three pointed questions, “Is this drawing me closer to Christ“, “Is this making me more like Christ“, and “Is this showing the goodness of God“? As we are honest with ourselves and our motives we will begin to loosen our grip on our worldly desires and draw closer to Christ and His will for our lives.

LOOKING AHEAD

SUNDAY
This Sunday we will discuss “What is God’s Will for my Public and Private Life.” Our desire is to dialogue about how different our lives at school, church, work, home and alone look different. Is that biblical for our lives for this all to be segmented? Is it good for us to live different lives? As we prepare for our time in small groups check out Romans 12:9-21, Matthew 6:2-18 and Psalm 139:1-6, 23-24.

WEDNESDAY
Next Wednesday we are having a Q&A with Pastor Rusty! This is an opportunity for us to ask Rusty any questions about faith that we have. We will also have a chance to share ideas with Rusty on how we can reach youth in our church. This will happen during our regular time 6:30-8pm in the Rafters.

Pictures from the Hoedown!

Last Friday night we had our annual Hoedown. It was a total blast! Be sure to check out the photos from the photo booth by clicking here! As you can see our students had some pretty creative costumes. Throughout the night we played some silly redneck games, ate lots of chili and square danced. The students loved it and we hope and pray that those who were new will join us again Wednesday night. Thank you everyone who made this such a great night!
